Reincarnation
The
belief that we move through a cycle of death and rebirth and this is both part
of our personal evolution and an integral part of the evolution of mankind, is
central to Theosophical teaching.
At the
end of physical life the individual experiences an after death period in which
the attributes of the personality of that life and the attachments to it are
dissolved. This is followed by a period of bliss in which in which unfulfilled
aspirations of the life just lived are achieved.
Then
its back to earth. The individual has no choice but to reincarnate but has some
control over the circumstances of the new birth. The individual is reborn in
circumstances in which the work and lessons of previous lives can be continued.
Failing
to face up to challenges during physical life means that the same problems will
just come round again.
There
is also baggage acquired from a physical life in the form of
1) Karma which is a system of reward and retribution for
the way we have behaved.
2) Skandas which are attributes and tendencies acquired
during a life which perpetuate into the following lives.
