How the Universe Works
(Universal Law)
The universe
doesn’t just get along anyhow, it is in fact governed by a strict set of rules.
Theosophists
refer to these rules as the Universal Law. This Law is inherently intelligent
and regulates everything that happens in the universe, thus keeping it in perfect
equilibrium.
The
actions of mankind can upset this equilibrium but the Universal Law will
correct it.
The
Universal Law is composed of these five principles:-
1
Causation
Everthing
originated and flows from a single first cause.
2
Cause and Effect
This
can also be called action and reaction. Newton’s mechanical universe describes
it on the physical plane but it functions at all levels of existence.
3
Periodicity
Also
called alternation. All activity is followed by a period of rest as in day and night,
the cycle of the seasons, life and death.
4
Harmony
Everything
functions in a state of equilibrium and will correct itself if thrown out of
kilter.
5
Progress and Development
Everything
is engaged in the process of evolution
